I don't want to get 'cracked'
If the thought of a 'cracking' sounds scary, know that there are so many techniques in Chiropractic that do not involve 'that' noise. During an adjustment you may hear a crack or pop, this is completely normal and there is nothing to worry about. If you are concerned about this, please let our Chiropractor know as they can alter their adjusting methods to accommodate.
Is Chiropractic care safe?
Yes! Chiropractic care is very safe. In fact research has shown that Chiropractic adjustments are safer than taking some over-the-counter type pain relief medication. Our fully qualified Chiropractor utilizes many different adjusting techniques that are both safe and effective.
Why is there a popping noise when I get adjusted?
With certain Chiropractic techniques a popping or cracking sounds may be audible. While this may seem alarming, you can rest assured that this is nothing to be concerned about. The popping noise is thought to be coming from a rush of nitrogen in the facet joints (not bone crunching on bone). More often than not, the popping or cracking noise seems louder than it actually is, due to the fact that the areas of adjustment can be in close proximity to your head and ears.
Can all my family receive chiropractic care?
Yes of course. Our youngest patient is a just a few hours old and oldest in their 90's. We check pregnant women, babies, toddlers, school aged children, right through to working adults, athletes and senior citizens. Chirofit offers a discounted Family Rate so please inquire if you are interested in having your family under care.
Do I need a referral from my gp / doctor?
There is no referral necessary, however we do receive lots of referrals from doctors and other health care professionals, that see the value of Chiropractic for their patients. As our Chiropractor is ACC registered, you are able to complete any ACC paperwork directly with us, on your first visit.
Does an adjustment hurt?
It shouldn't. While our Chiropractor will take every step to ensure a pain free visit, there may be instances where some discomfort is felt. Sometimes, with an acute injury, there could be some interim pain while getting adjusted but this will soon dissipate quickly thereafter. You should notice a sense of well-being, more flexibility and mobility after each adjustment.
how long will it take before i am injury / pain free?
Your body has an amazing ability to heal, but it does take time to correct the underlying problems that caused the pain. Most people can feel better after a few visits but everybody is different and depending on the nature of the injury / pain and whether it is acute or chronic, can also determine how your body responds to Chiropractic care. Our Chiropractor will also provide home care recommendations to help you achieve the maximum benefit from the care you receive from our practice.
what is a subluxation?
Signals travel from your brain down your spinal cord and out to every organ and tissue of your body and these signals are sent back to your brain to confirm how your body is working. Improper motion or position of the moving bones of the spine, is called a ‘subluxation’. This interferes with this vital exchange by irritating nerves and compromising function of the organs, muscles and tissues.
what is an adjustment?
An ‘adjustment’ is the term used by Chiropractors to remove subluxations. This is a process where the Chiropractor performs specific movements, to an identified area, helping the bones of the spine and the nerves to work properly. Health often returns with improved nervous system control of your body. Adjustments may be performed either by way of manual adjustments or through the use of an activator.
what is an activator & how does it work?
An activator is a hand held device designed for Chiropractors to administer adjustments, that works by delivering a finely tuned impulse to a targeted area or joint. We use this tool as an alternative method of adjusting that is both gentle and effective.
